Zanzibar is a large island off the coast of Tanzania in the Indian Ocean. It was formerly the trading hub of east Africa and a cultural melting pot, and there is much evidence of it past in historic Stone Town, the island capital. Beautiful secluded white sand beaches and palm-tree lined coves surround the island, and coral reefs afford excellent snorkelling and scuba diving, while there are plenty of opportunities for deep sea fishing and watersports along with wonderful fresh fish restaurants.

Many spice plantations growing cinnamon, vanilla, cloves and nutmeg dot the island, and there are great luxury accommodation options.
