Tanzania Off The Beaten Path

This seven-day Tanzanian safari adventure takes you off the beaten path, taking in two of the country’s most unspoiled and least-visited game reserves. You’ll start with a trip to Selous, Africa’s largest game reserve, the size of a European country at some 50,000 square kilometres. It’s one of the world’s truly great wilderness areas, and you will have the chance to explore on foot with expert guides and armed rangers to get up close to its wildlife. Next up is Ruaha National Park, which is justifiably renowned by safari aficionados for its diversity of ecology and geography. It is Tanzania’s second largest national park, and you’ll feel like you have the place to yourself as you explore its rivers, rolling plains and hillsides. Ruaha is home to wildlife from Tanzania’s northern and southern species, and is one of the few places you can see both Greater and Lesser Kudus together.

Day 2
Selous Game Reserve
Selous is classed as a game reserve rather than a national park, which means you can embark on guided walks in the bush there. This morning you will head out on foot with an armed ranger and expert guide to get an intimate view of the area’s wildlife. Lunch will be at camp and then there will be a further game-viewing walk in the afternoon.
Day 3
Selous Game Reserve
There will be a walk in the morning followed by lunch at the camp. In the afternoon you could explore the African bush by open sided safari vehicle. You’ll have your last dinner and overnight stay at Selous Safari Camp tonight.
Day 4
Ruaha National Park
Fly onwards from Selous to Ruaha National Park then make the short drive to Jongomero Camp where you will stay for three nights. You’ll be able to start exploring the bush after lunch, returning to camp for dinner.
Day 5
Ruaha National Park
A full day in Ruaha, with 4WD game drives in the morning and afternoon, taking you into remote corners of this highly-regarded wildlife habitat.
Day 6
Ruaha National Park
There is the chance today to take a full day game drive in Ruaha National Park, enjoying a picnic lunch on the way and searching the northern Ruaha hills and riverine landscapes to seek out new wildlife.
Day 7
After your last breakfast on safari it will be time to return to the airstrip, but you will be able to enjoy a short game drive on the way to get your last taste of the African wilderness before returning to Dar es Salaam. You could, alternatively, choose to extend your trip to Tanzania with a beach extension on the spice isle of Zanzibar.
