The charming coastal town of Swakopmund is set between the vast Namib desert and the Atlantic, with the Skeleton Coast stretching northwards from it. It was founded in the late 19th century by German settlers and retains its historic architecture. As well as many great seafood restaurants and sights Swakopmund is an excellent base for a range of adventurous activities, from sandboarding and quad biking on the dunes to microlight flights, surfing and shark fishing.
