Kijani House

From: €1,399

The exclusive Kijani House is a ten-room hotel overlooking the Shela Channel on the Kenyan Arab-influenced island of Lamu. It is a 90-minute flight and 15-minute boat trip from Nairobi to this tropical idyll, and the hotel is ideally placed for watching traditional wooden dhows sail by and for soaking up the island’s unique atmosphere. Guestrooms have coral walls and traditional makuti roofs, and all feature balconies or verandahs with views across the tropical gardens or ocean. It is set on 12-kilometre Shela Beach, and features an excellent restaurant, serving local Swahili specialities and plenty of freshly-caught seafood.
