Malindi

There has been a Swahili settlement at Malindi since the 14th century, and the port town boasts historic buildings and some of Kenya’s best beaches. The Watamu and Malindi Marine National Parks offer superb diving and snorkelling over coral reefs and the nearby Arabuku Sokoke forest is a paradise for bird watchers. Malindi is around 75 miles north of Mombasa and the ancient Swahili ruins at Gedi are nearby. The town can be reached by air from Nairobi, Mombasa and Lamu. Shimba

The Shimba Hills National Reserve covers a plateau just inland from the Mombasa coast and as well as being home to around 700 elephants, also has Kenya’s only sable antelope population.
